Good to know! There are two different production methods for making bamboo textiles: mechanical and chemical process. The mechanical process is rare today because it is significantly more time-consuming and expensive compared to the chemical one. In a mechanical process, the woody part of the plants is crushed and the wood pulp is broken down with the help of natural enzymes, after which the fiber is processed into yarn. In the chemical process, bamboo fiber is turned into cellulose fiber with the help of chemicals. The mechanical process preserves all the wonderful natural properties of the bamboo fiber, whereas the chemical process degrades some of these properties. Only mechanically processed bamboo can really be called bamboo fabric, chemically produced bamboo is called bamboo viscose.
